Unconditional Love from a Friend

I had always hoped someday to have a friend who loved me unconditionally, whether I was happy, sad, angry, depressed, healthy or sick, that person would love me regardless.

Humans, unfortunately, are not made that way. We have to work at it. It has to be something we want more than anything. It is a lesson even I am learning to this day.

Genuine love comes from GOD. It is called "Agape", meaning unconditional. Though I strive to be like this, it is hard, there are those I've met in my life that sometimes I wish I hadn't, then I think to myself, well that's not what GOD wants.

There are many times in the bible where we can see Genuine, Unconditional, True Friendship.
Here is one example: When Jesus was led away from the garden by the guards, Peter's reaction is to deny knowing Him, yet what does Jesus do? Christ forgives him. HE reinstates Peter as the disciples leader.
Here is another example: Christ died for us, HE gave up His life to save ours, without even spending time with each and every one of us. Yet HE knows me, since the time I was created in my mother's womb. How many of us can honestly say we would be willing to give up our lives to save a friends life?

Proverbs 18:19 "An offended brother is more unyielding than a fortified city, and disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel"
(this verse is so very true!!)

I've always believed that true genuine friendship: loves, forgives, and honestly seeks to enjoy that person's company, delighting in their happiness, crying with them in sad times, helping them through difficult times, lending a hand up out of the pit, coming over when they are sick to see if there is anything they need or help around the house, actually being interested in that friend's life and the things they love and like, always wanting to resolve any differences without fighting, accepting a sincere apology, offering a sincere apology, looking at that person's heart and knowing them for who they really are and not what they might be enduring or battling at the present time in their life.

There are many different types of friends you will have through out your life, and the hardest but best one is that one friend who will unconditionally love you your entire life and who doesn't stand on the sidelines waiting for you to always come knock at their door but takes the initiative to come also to you, to knock on your door.

I have one best friend since high school who I know will still keep in touch with me as we get older and I have friends, those that I share life with, those I live with, and my extended family, but no "agape" friend, other than my Lord. It is hard for me to trust so openly for my heart has been beaten down many times by those claiming to be my friend, it is something that scares me, because parts of my heart were sealed off and that pain locked away.

I've bared my soul to some friends thinking they were those "agape" type friends only to find out later in life that they were not. So far, GOD has been that one and only who accepts me unconditionally.

I John 3:14 "We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death."
